K-WEEK (JULY 30)

The month of July is about to end and it was a crazy one! From countless debuts, summery singles, comebacks, and music videos, K-pop never slows down! Let's close out July with a quick summary of what happened during the last week!

MONSTA X RELEASES ANOTHER SINGLE, BUT WITH A SUMMERY TWIST

Monsta X returned with yet ANOTHER single featuring a bright, summery music video. ‘Newton’ does seem like one giant Lipton tea commercial, though. Is Starship Entertainment under one huge contract with Lipton tea or something? Starship did the same thing with Hyolyn’s solo single ‘Fruity' that came out a while ago. But out of the two, Monsta X’s has a summerier (is that a word?) feel and showcases the boys' cute side! Although the song is nothing special and Monsta X will not be performing the song live, it’s definitely a nice listen on a hot day while driving in the car.

JULY WAS THE MONTH OF DEBUT K-POP GROUPS

July has finally come to a close and dang a lot of new groups debuted last month! 14U, MYTEEN, P.O.P, and Favorite all debuted, including other solo artists. It was definitely a busy time for K-pop, and although I haven’t looked into any of these new groups, all definitely show promise.

If I had to pick my favorite single out of the four, I think it would be MYTEEN’s debut song, ‘Amazing.’ I’m always down for a funky beat (complete with one great bass guitar) and no one can deny this song is incredibly catchy. Also, can we just admire the stylist? If 90’s prep was the look, dang did they pull it off incredibly well!
