Some artists have exceptional talent that enables them to create hit after hit after hit…after hit. It’s this endless stream of incredible music, thanks to hard work, that helps a group of individuals reach ultimate stardom. Day6 is that stardom group. Maybe I'm too early in saying this, but, to me, this is Day6's year. As one of the best Korean artists out there, Day6 is a force to be reckoned with, and after only debuting two years ago have dominated the K-pop band world.

Founded in 2015 by JYP Entertainment, Day6 started as an obscure K-pop band that gained popularity by doing covers of popular K-pop and American songs. Consisting of six members, Day6 was made up of a dynamic group of singers, pianists, guitarists, and a young drummer. In September 2015, the group debuted with their first EP, The Day. The first title song, "Congratulations," was a dramatic, heart pumping rock song describing the tale of a broken-hearted man and the woman that cheated on him. It’s a song that highlights the groups immense talent, not only instrumentally, but vocally.

Other notable songs from their first mini-album, include “Free Freely” and “Out of My Mind,” but check out all the songs by clicking here. Sadly, keyboardist and vocalist Junhyoeok left the group early in 2016 due to personal reasons, leaving the group down to five members. The five current members include:

  • Sungjin:  Leader, guitarist, and vocalist
  • Jae: Guitarist, vocalist, and rapper
  • Young K: Bassist, vocalist, and rapper
  • Wonpil: Keyboardist, synthesizer, and vocalist
  • Dowoon: Drummer

Soon after the announcement of their sixth member leaving, Day6 came out with their second mini-album, DAYDREAM, in March 2016. The title song, “Letting Go” was a ballad with powerful, passionate vocals and equality passionate instrumentals. It was a heart-thumping song that tore at the heartstrings, and would ultimately help bring Day6 to the forefront of the K-pop band world.

“Letting Go” was the first song that the group performed on a music show and it helped Day6 gain new fans. If you ever doubted the vocal abilities of Day6, just check out the live performance below. In December 2016, Day6 announced their new release plans titled “Every Day6.” On the sixth day of each month the group would release an EP and a music video and hold two concerts. It was a brilliant marketing scheme and definitely the highlight of my K-pop year! Why? Well, not only were Day6 fans blessed with constant music from Day6 throughout the year, it helped elevate the group to new heights and gain thousands of fans (with the numbers still growing since we are only in September). Whoever thought of this idea was brilliant, but also crazy!

Since Day6 is a group that frequently writes, composes, and produces their music, it wasn’t an easy feat to ask of them, but the group has executed it flawlessly. As the months winded down, the clock ticked and the incredible music kept on coming. “Is Day6 capable of creating a bad song?” K-pop fans thought and the simple answer is...NO!  Whether the song was slow, energetic, silly, serious, or emotional, the group gave it their all and kept up with the demands of this ambitious plan.

In June 2017, Day6 released their first full album, SUNRISE, which included twelve Every Day6 songs, two new songs, and remakes of their past title songs “Congratulations” and “Letting Go.” The album debuted at #6 on the Billboard international charts and even topped international iTunes charts! Their title song “I Smile,” was an emotional ballad that showcased the vocal range of each member, particularly Wonpil’s incredible falsetto. The group performed during music shows and were greeted with the loudest fanchants yet, and soon after announced that fans of Day6 would be called "My Days!"
